We already know the effects of so called vampire energy drainers, these are the devices that in the background secretly suck your electricity supply whilst you not using the device. An awful lot of electricla devices we use use pretty much the same amount of energy in standby mode as they do when they are switched on and in use. None more so than our games consoles. When we switch our console off using the switch on the console is it really off. The Nintendo Wii for example justs moves to a standby mode, the same goes for set top boxes such as satellite/cable receivers, the worst however are the chargers for devices such as mobile phones which suck electricity even if the phone is not connected. There is only one way to make sure these type of devices are not using electricity whilst you are not using them and creating you a larger energy bill as well as creating enormous overheads for energy companys and the emissions they currently produce is to switch them off completely at the wall socket. This however is not very convenient especially if many devices are connected to a multi plug strip sor example. There are many devices around that address this issue, but a new product, TV TrickleSaver can address these problems by stopping the flow of electricity to a device when it is in standby mode.

In a recent report by the Australian Consumer Association that one of the devices that consumed the most power was a Sony PS3, closely followed by a Microsoft Xbox 360 and Plasma TV’s. It was reported that a PS3 used over ten times more power than a Nintendo Wii.

The TV TrickleSaver uses circuitry to detect whether the television is switched on or off, when it detects the television is off it will switch off all accessory devices such as your game consoles, thus saving you and planet from using so much energy.
