Do you want a better way to manage your PC’s power consumption, maybe switch the monitor off or put your PC into hibernate mode when you move away from the keyboard. Well maybe a new piece of software from VeryPC could be the answer. Utilising a webcam and face detection software, the software can determine if you are there and if you are facing/using the PC and after a determined amount of time carry out an energy saving action such as switching the display off.

Of course PecoBoo can be set to be manage how you want your power management to work. PecoBoo could herald the start of a new generation of software by controlling user input via webcams much like the much vaunted announcement of Project Natal, the motion controller for Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

It would seem that more ‘natural’ control of devices such as motion capture are the way forward in many eyes and this in some small way helps our energy bills and will make small in-roads into keeping emissions down from the power generators.
