We already know the effects of so called vampire energy drainers, these are the devices that in the background secretly suck your electricity supply whilst you not using the device. An awful lot of electricla devices we use use pretty much the same amount of energy in standby mode as they do when they are switched on and in use.  None more so than our games consoles.  When we switch our console off using the switch on the console is it really off.  The Nintendo Wii for example justs moves to a standby mode, the same goes for set top boxes such as satellite/cable receivers

In a recent report by the Australian Consumer Association that one of the devices that consumed the most power was a Sony PS3, closely followed by a Microsoft Xbox 360 and Plasma TV’s.  It was reported that a PS3 used over ten times more power than a Nintendo Wii.
